Quebec director to helm sci-fi pilot ‘Horizon’

TORONTO — Producers of a potential new sci-fi series for USA Network have tapped Quebec filmmaker Yves Simoneau to direct the pilot in Toronto.

Horizon was developed by Gale Anne Hurd, one of the executive producers of the AMC hit The Walking Dead.

Set during World War II, Horizon focuses on a woman who uncovers evidence that her husband was killed during a battle with a space ship.

Casting is underway and cameras are set to roll in Toronto in late summer.

Simoneau directed 2007’s Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, which earned five Emmy Awards including Outstanding Made For Television Movie. He helmed the 2004 pilot episode of the USA Network sci-fi series The 4400.

Hurd’s credits as producer include the 2008 made-in-Toronto feature The Incredible Hulk and 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.

USA Network, owned by NBCUniversal parent company Comcast, already makes the legal drama Suits  and crime series Covert Affairs in Toronto.
