Remembering Father Troy

More than 1,100 people turned out on Friday to remember Father Michael Troy, a well loved Catholic priest in Edmonton. Friends and family tuned in via live webcast from as far away as Ireland and Nigeria.

“The fact that we have gathered today in such great numbers … in so, so many different locales, is a powerful testament to the blessings God has poured out on His people through the love of Father Michael Troy,” said Edmonton’s Archbishop Richard Smith.

Father Troy was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1917. He came to Edmonton in 1965 where he was a teacher for 32 years.

The Edmonton Catholic School Board named Father Michael Troy Jr. High after him in 2003.

He was also was also editor of The Spiritan, a worldwide missionary magazine.

Father Troy passed away in his sleep on the morning of March 19th at the age of 92.
