A Calgary man is celebrating after his stolen saxophones were found, unharmed, in an alley.
Tyler Bosch returned home last weekend after performing with his band at a fundraiser in Turner Valley and parked his truck behind his house in the southeast community of New Brighton.
The next morning, he discovered his alto and tenor saxophones had been stolen.
“Honestly, my stomach — it sank pretty hard,” Bosch said Thursday.
The 36-year-old had just bought the tenor sax earlier this year.
His brother, who’s also one of his bandmates, had given him the alto sax as a gift 10 years ago.
“It’s the one that kind of got me back into it. I’ve spent a lot of time shining it up and turning the knobs… That one kind of hurt,” Bosch said.
After Global News’ story on the theft, Bosch said someone shared it on a Crime Stoppers page, which then caught the attention of a person who saw a post on a community page about instrument cases being found in her garbage can.
The woman called Bosch and it turned out she lived close by.
“I was really excited, I couldn’t be happier by that,” he said Friday.
“I think the only people that were more relieved were my bandmates. The singer was… very excited for me.”
Bosch said taking valuables out of vehicles is now one of the band’s rules.
“It’s just like nice to see, restore a little faith in humanity after it was kind of shattered a little bit on Sunday, so yeah it’s good, I’m happy,” he said.
The two saxophones are worth about $6,000.
