WINNIPEG – Flowers and a candle mark the spot where 23-year old Kyle Devasconcelos was found dead Sunday. Winnipeg police released the identity of the city’s latest homicide victim Monday. The man has a lengthy criminal record involving drugs and weapons.
The gruesome discovery in a St. Boniface back alley behind a wearhouse building has residents in the neighbourhood on edge and shocked they didn’t hear anything.
Around 9 o’clock Sunday morning, Global News has learned a woman who is believed to be homeless followed a blood trail leading her to find the man’s body.

On Monday, detectives were still knocking on doors and talking to those who live in the area, asking if they heard anyone fighting or gun shots.
No neighbours Global News spoke to heard any gun shots or arguments.
“I didn’t know there was a body,” said Autumn Beardy. “I was totally oblivious. There’s blood behind my car and I was just walking around.”
“It was just surreal,” said Lisa Hill. “We never thought this would happen in our back alley.”

One neighbour says police told her it was a serious assault but police won’t confirm how the man died. They would only say that he died from an upper body injury.
Devasconcelos was well known to police.
Court documents show he had gang ties and was convicted of drug and weapon charges dating back to 2007.
He’s spent time in jail and was currently out on bail for a 2011 drug trafficking charge.
At the time of his arrest, police found a large amount of cocaine and almost $1500 on him.
This is the city’s 9th homicide of the year.
