Strong economy and low taxes help Saskatchewan businesses thrive

SASKATOON – The strength of our economy and low taxes are giving Saskatchewan businesses an advantage. That’s according to a new Bank of Montreal report.

Ricky Iula has been operating his company in Saskatoon for 7 years and says it’s the right time to own a business in Saskatchewan.

“The demand for housing has been great since 2006 and the more we see growth in Saskatoon the more we’re seeing different areas popping up such as Greenbryre here,” said Ricky Iula, Decora Homes Owner.

According to a BMO provincial business report, as homebuilders keep pace with a growing population, construction activities continue to drive demand and growth. Saskatchewan has the fastest employment gains in the country.

The report also says the resource sector continues to be a key economic driver in the province.

“Certainly it is not a surprise to us that potash and oil are driving the big part of economic boom in Saskatchewan. We certainly see that every day in our business and really you see it in 2 parts. The potash business itself is having a pretty good year and we continue to execute on our great expansion plan where we are spending about 6 point one billion dollars in Saskatchewan, said Bill Johnson, PotashCorp Senior Director Public Affairs.

The poll found that 62 percent of Saskatchewan business owners expect the provincial economy to improve.

Of the major advantages to doing business in Saskatchewan, favorable taxes and government policies round out the top 3.
