In just two years as Head Coach of the Als, Trestman has led the team to two Grey Cup appearances – losing to Calgary in 2008 and beating Saskatchewan in 2009.

Trestman edged out Ken Miller (Riders) and Marcel Bellefeuille (Ti-Cats) for the award.

Now all three are deserving of the award but if I were on the voting committee, I'd have to give the nod to Marcel Bellefeuille.

Trestman led the Als to a 15-3 record (Franchise Record) and a Grey Cup Championship but let's be honest, the Als were expected to be good this season. Ken Miller led the Saskatchewan Roughriders to their second Grey Cup appearance in three years and were just moments away from glory… you know the rest. It was an impressive season given so many had counted the Green and White out after some key off-season departures.

And then there's Marcel Bellefeuille. He led the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to a 9-9 record and their first playoff appearance since 2004. He took a team that has long been considered the joke of the league into a respectable opponent capable of beating anyone on any given night. It's for that reason I think Bellefeuille should have been named Coach of the Year.

Regardless… Congratulations to Marc Trestman for a job well done. He's been a breath of fresh air to the Canadian Football League and I hope we'll see more young and new coaches to the league in years to come.
