Jean Coutu plans to spend $190M on new headquarters in Varenne

LONGUEUIL, Que. – Jean Coutu Group (PJC) Inc. (TSX:TJC.A) says it will spend nearly $190 million to build a new, larger headquarters and distribution centre in Varennes, Que.

The Quebec-based pharmacy retailer says construction will begin next year and operations will begin to be transferred in 2016.

The company says about 1,000 employees will be moved gradually to the new facilities.

Jean Coutu Group has been in its current locations in Longueuil’s industrial park since 1976.

The company has grown since then and needs a bigger space.

Both Longueuil and Varennes are in the South Shore area near Montreal. Varennes is about 20 kilometres to the northeast of Longueuil.
