Crews remove debris at the site of Skagit River bridge collapse

Crews are still removing debris from the Skagit River today.

Large hydraulic cutters are being used to slice and remove the large girders.

The Washington State department of transportation says the rebuilding process will be done carefully because they’re not certain about the stability of the wreckage.

Meanwhile, the detour routes that locals must navigate to bypass the bridge are kept busy.

But, it is way better than last Friday – the first full day following the collapse.

At 9:30 this morning, it took anywhere from 14 to 22 minutes to bypass the bridge going southbound, mainly because traffic lights have been re-timed for the local roads now carrying Interstate traffic.

At the bridge, crews were cutting steel trusses that tumbled into the river Thursday night, putting them on shore so the NTSB can inspect them, especially U4 — the second southbound beam clipped by the Alberta transport.
