Calgary police lay charges in LRT assault

City police have charged two people in connection with an assault on several women at an LRT station earlier in May.

Just before 11 p.m. on May 15th, two women were walking on the southbound platform at the Shawnessy LRT station, when they saw a group of four people arguing.

The women crossed to the northbound platform, when two people from the group, a man and a woman, followed them and then confronted them.

The two women were physically assaulted and attacked with bear spray. One of the women had her purse stolen.

After looking at security video, police now believe a third woman on the platform was assaulted. Police would like to talk to her but she has not come forward.

Police have charged 27-year-old Letoya Powderface with one count of assault.

A teenaged boy who can’t be named because he’s a minor, is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and theft under $5,000.
