A highway trek came to an abrupt halt for two people after fire destroyed a motorhome and the vehicle it was towing behind it on Saturday morning in southern Manitoba.

Falcon Lake RCMP were called to a report of a fire on Highway 1 near Spruce Siding, MB at 10:30 a.m.

Both occupants escaped without injury.

Police said the cause is believed to be mechanical in nature.

One eastbound lane was closed as of Saturday afternoon during an investigation and motorists were told to expect delays.

Spruce Siding is approximately 95 kilometres east of Winnipeg.
