A Hydro wire fell on top of a stop sign in Mission Tuesday afternoon, energizing both, forcing the current into the ground and igniting an 8″ natural gas line.
The fire forced the evacuation of 19 homes for much of the evening, and cut power to about 3,300 homes.

Mission Fire were on the scene and said gas vapours were burning through the ground on to the surface at Stave Lake Road and Parr Avenue.
An evacuation centre was set up at the Mission Leisure Centre for residents on evacuation alert.
Fortis was also on scene.
