MONTREAL – A judge has agreed to Quebec election-night shooter Richard Henry Bain’s request to forego his preliminary hearing on Tuesday.
Bain, who faces 15 charges including premeditated murder, attempted murder, possession of a firearm and arson, is scheduled to return to court on September 3.
A preliminary hearing is held to establish the strength of the evidence. The Crown had several witnesses scheduled, but it did not oppose Bain’s request to bypass the hearing.
The case still falls under a publication ban. The application by media agencies to fight the ban will be heard in Superior Court on Thursday.
