CALGARY- Residents of two homes in Ramsay have been forced from their homes after a Saturday afternoon fire caused extensive damage.
The Calgary Fire Department responded to reports of a fire in the 1000 block of 8 Street Southeast around 1 p.m.
Firefighters say they could see large plumes of black smoke while enroute.
Once they arrived, they say a detached bungalow was fully engulfed in flames and that the blaze extended to a neighbouring house.

A second alarm was called due to the size of the blaze.
“Our friend was sleeping on the couch downstairs and heard some noises and then went to the kitchen and saw a fire and yelled to us,” says Jessica Wittman who lives in one of the homes. “I went and looked at it and it looked like the whole back wall of the house was just in flames.”
In all, 12 occupants from the two homes were able to escape safely and without injury.
Fire crews were also able to rescue a pet cat and return it to its owner.
Fire officials say the homes’ occupants have made alternate arrangements for accommodations Saturday night.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
