SASKATOON – The Crown is appealing the sentence given to teacher Bonnie McLachlan, who was recently found guilty of sexually exploiting a 15-year-old student two decades ago.

McLachlan, now 52, was given an 18-month sentence to be served in the community.

Crown prosecutors have asked the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal to review the sentence, saying it was not enough considering the seriousness of the offence.

McLachlan denied having sex with the teen during the 1993-94 school year. But the complainant testified a sexual relationship had developed between the two and that McLachlan was the one who initiated it.
