Police-involved shooting in Brantford sends man to hospital with serious injuries: SIU

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit says it’s checking out a police-involved shooting in Brantford.

The police watchdog says Brantford police received a call about “a man in distress” at a residence on Ava Road around 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Officers dispatched to the calls say that man drove away as they were arriving. They followed him to an area around Pearl Street and St. James Street.

The man then stopped, exited the vehicle, and had an interaction with the pursuing officers. Moments later the officers fired on the man who was struck multiple times, according to the SIU.

The man, 48, was transported to hospital with serious injuries and remains in critical condition.

The SIU investigation is on-going.
