Calgarians awoke to a hike in gas prices Thursday morning, just ahead of the Victoria Day long weekend.
The price for a litre of gas surged an average of 7 cents at stations throughout Calgary, from 118.9 cents to 125.9 cents.
The timing is coincidental, in that Thursday is the Canadian Taxpayers Federation annual Gas Tax Honesty Day.

The initiative was first launched 15 years ago, in an effort to educate consumers on just how much money paid at the pump is solely taxes.
The group will be releasing a national report on hidden gas taxes at 10 a.m. MST.
