Engine problem forces flight back to Halifax

HALIFAX – An engine problem forced a Sunwing flight to return to Halifax early today minutes after takeoff.

Ashley Gallant, a spokeswoman for the Halifax Stanfield International Airport, says there were seven crew members but no passengers on board the aircraft.

She says Sunwing flight 9581 was headed to Cancun when crew radioed to report a problem with a front engine shortly after getting airborne.

Airport fire crews were dispatched to meet the aircraft as it circled and landed safely about 10 minutes later.

There were no injuries or damage reported.
