Kelowna RCMP responded to multiple 9-1-1 emergency calls from concerned citizens in the Bernard Avenue and Mill Street area, according to police.
The calls were regarding a man with a concealed face carrying what appeared to be a long-barreled firearm.
Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, Kelowna RCMP said, “multiple front-line officers descended on Kerry Park where they took multiple individuals into custody without incident during a dynamic, high-risk arrest.”
Upon investigation, police confirmed that the item that appeared to be a weapon was not a firearm.
Eyewitness Michael LeBlanc told Global News that, “there were quite a few police cars going in the direction I was walking and a crowd was starting to gather.”
Upon closer inspection, LeBlanc said he saw officers with weapons drawn.
RCMP said in a release that one person is still in custody, but all others who were handcuffed were released unconditionally and without charges.
