Zipper merge lifted on Circle Drive earlier than expected

Major traffic restriction on Circle Drive ends early thanks to cooperative weather. File / Global News

SASKATOON – Major traffic restrictions on Circle Drive have ended early thanks, in part, to weather cooperating.

All lanes of Circle Drive were reopened Monday morning between Millar Avenue and the Circle Drive North Bridge.

The city says the weather cooperated and everything went as planned which allowed crews to work around-the-clock and finish before the original completion date of May 31.

Many reports indicate the zipper merge was successful and helped traffic move through the area.

Some finishing work will close one lane in each direction for two or three evenings starting tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Daily traffic won’t be affected by this work and the speed limit through the area is 60 km/h until this work is complete.

Other Saskatoon traffic restrictions start today including one on Hartley Road. Starting around 9 a.m., it will be closed between Preston Avenue and Assaly Street for a water and sewer connection.

Stonebridge neighbourhood traffic will be detoured for the next two days via Stonebridge Common, Victor Road and Assaly Street.

Northbound Warman Road traffic will also be closing around 9 a.m. today at 33rd Street. Traffic will be detoured via 7th Avenue North while crews correct a portion of the road that is failing.

Warman Road is expected to reopen by 2 p.m. this afternoon.

The city of Saskatoon is asking motorists to allow extra time when travelling past construction zones, watch for pedestrians and work crews and obey all detours, signs and barriers.
