Wildfire near Nordegg still out of control

EDMONTON – As of Saturday morning, the wildfire burning southwest of Nordegg is still classified as out of control, and is burning roughly 110 hectares.

Clearwater County says there are about 90 firefighters and several pieces of heavy equipment and aircraft reinforcing the perimeter of the fire.

The one hour evacuation order is still in effect for the hamlet of Nordegg. Clearwater County issued the evacuation alert on May 9, and it’s still in effect for Nordegg and Frontier Lodge.

Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development says Forestry Trunk Road is closed between the north fork and Highway 11. The road will re-open when conditions permit.

Due to high hazard conditions, a fire advisory is in effect for the Rocky Mountain House Wildfire Management Area.
