Flood gates opened, residents warned to protect property

VERNON, BC – Sand and sand filled bags are now piling up in North Okanagan communities following flood gate opening on Duteau Creek.

For the next 24 hours, residents of Lumby and those living in the area of Duteau Creek are being advised to pick up more sand bags to protect their property before flooding begins.

Waterways around the North Okanagan, as in other BC Interior communities, are expected to rise into the weekend with continuing near-record breaking temperatures.

Sand and bags can be picked up at these locations in the North Okanagan:

Lumby – across from the Curling Rink as well as behind Sheardown’s/Super A Foods, and also at the bridge beside Faulkner Street.

Armstrong – sand and sand bags located at Public Works yards 2950 Patterson Ave.
