As of publication, the Blue Jays sit last in their division and 25th in the league, with just 13 wins in 35 games.

The tweet quickly gained popularity on Twitter with 678 retweets and 374 favourites.

One twitter – reflecting Lawrie’s spelling – spawned the hashtag “LetsGetThisRefunddd.”

Another twitter user, Ken Arneson, wrote: “I eagerly await the refund of the portion of @Blawrie13’s salary that my fandom generates. Once in hand, I shall mention no more.”

The Blue Jays play the Tampa Bay Rays at 7:10 p.m. Thursday night.
