U.S. customs computer outage causes delays at YVR, border crossings

Statistics Canada says Canadians took more trips to the United States in June but fewer people travelled to Canada. Global News/Jeremy Cohn

U.S. bound travellers flying out of the Vancouver International Airport or crossing the border can expect long delays after U.S. customs battled a nation-wide computer outage.

YVR confirmed the system went down across Canada at around 2:00 p.m.

Customs officers processed travellers manually, causing long line ups and delayed flights.

YVR said the issue was resolved by 4 p.m.

U.S. officials at the Peace Arch border crossing said they also experienced the system outage and encouraged travellers to allow extra time to cross the border.
