The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Lloydminster on Monday.
RCMP officers were trying to arrest a 33-year-old man in a stolen vehicle at around 3:20 p.m. in an industrial area of the city, ASIRT said on Wednesday.
The suspect ran and two officers chased him on foot, according to the police watchdog.
“A confrontation occurred, during which one officer discharged his service weapon,” ASIRT said.
The suspect was airlifted to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, ASIRT said.
The watchdog said that after surgery, the man was in stable condition.
No officers were injured, RCMP said in a news release on Monday.
ASIRT said a loaded semi-automatic handgun was found at the scene.
The RCMP will investigate the events leading up to the serious incident and ASIRT will review police actions.
