Grace Shirley scored a short-handed goal with 41.9 seconds left to lead her Saskatoon Stars to a 3-2 win over the Sudbury Lady Wolves on Wednesday at the Esso Cup.

Saskatoon snatched first place away from Sudbury with one game left to go in the preliminary round of Canada’s women’s midget championship.

Joelle Fiala and Emily Holmes had power-play goals for Saskatoon, while Arden Kliewer made 23 saves for the win.

Mylene Lefebvre and Alexe Clavelle supplied the offence for Sudbury. Mireille Kingsley stopped 32 shots in net.

Earlier Wednesday, the St. Albert Slash blanked the Halifax Fire 4-0 and the Stoney Creek Sabres edged the A’s de Quebec 3-2.
