If you are looking for a new ride just in time for spring you may be in luck.
Saturday marked the start of Winnipeg’s annual bike auction happening over the weekend where 400 unclaimed bikes were up for bid.
Hundreds of bicycles are collected every year from all over the city, whether they’ve been recovered by police or found abandoned.
The auction continues Sunday with another 300 bikes up for bid at the Varsity View Sportsplex at 4230 Ridgewood Avenue.
Organizers said all bikes must be sold and if Winnipeggers are looking for a great deal they are bound to find one.
“Bikes of all different makes, models and sizes and (they go for) a wide range of prices,” said Marcia Fifer with community by-law enforcement services. “So if you’re looking for a deal there’s definitely something for 25 or 40 bucks.”
Money raised at the auction will go back into the City’s Bicycle Recovery program and into the Winnipeg Repair Education and Cycling Hub (W.R.E.N.C.H.) program, which teaches bike repair and cycling workshops.
