About 200 people repeatedly chanted “build that pipe now!” at a pro-pipeline rally in downtown Calgary on Friday.

The rally, organized by the pro-oil group Canada Action, was planned to get the feds to stop Bill C-69, which would change how major energy projects get reviewed for their environmental, social and economic effects.

The gathering was also to promote the approval of the Trans Mountain project after Indigenous consultations are completed.

“People are continuing to get laid off, we’re seeing no progress on pipelines, and we’re seeing legislation like Bill C-69 move through the government and that will continue to harm our economy and hurt the energy sector, the resource sector across the country,” said Canada Action founder Cody Battershill.

“We don’t need to play any more political games and any more delays on this. It’s a shovel-ready project,” Battershill said. “We’re all Canadian, and all Canadian jobs matter.”
