Jonas Brothers accused of copying Portugal. The Man’s ‘Feel It Still’

Following the long-awaited comeback of the Jonas Brothers — and the release of their first music in nearly a decade — many social media users have raised concerns regarding the brothers’ latest single, Sucker.

The pop-heavy earworm has been accused of sounding a heck of a lot similar to another popular anthem.

That’s right. Dedicated fans of American indie rock sextet Portugal. The Man, have called out Kevin, Nick and Joe Jonas for allegedly copying their 2017 hit Feel It Still.

It didn’t stop there though. The band members too have addressed these accusations in a recent tweet.

“To be fair,” they began, “the chorus of Feel It Still sounds very similar to Please Mister Postman by the Marvelettes. [And] we respectfully cleared and thanked them for every chance we got. As one does. @jonasbrothers.”

Although the group admitted they owe much of their credit to the Marvelettes’ Please Mister Postman, it was insinuated that the Jonas Brothers should have followed in their footsteps by giving Feel It Still some recognition.

Sucker was written by the Jonas Brothers along with Ryan Tedder. It was released under Republic Records and produced by Louis Bell and Frank Dukes.

The track jumped right to the top of the iTunes charts while the Anthony Mandler-directed video has already surmounted a whopping 4.5-million views worldwide.

Meanwhile, Feel It Still receives heavy radio airplay and since its release has been certified platinum or even higher in 12 individual countries.

In response to a fan asking if they were “mad at the Jonas Brothers,” Portugal. The Man replied, “Not mad at all. Actually dig a lot of their music.”

These words should have set the record straight for the speculators, however, it seemingly did not. A divide between Jonas Brothers lovers and Portugal. The Man fans began over Twitter.

In wake of the social media outrage, Portugal. The Man decided to retweet a series of posts which humorously compare Sucker to Feel It Still.

While the band members claimed that they weren’t “mad at all,” fans across the social media platform began speculating that the Alaskan rockers might have been trying to stir some trouble with the Jonas Brothers.

“True wealth is having the ability to share what you have to help those less fortunate,” wrote the band in a later tweet.

Although many saw the thought-provoking tweet as a kind gesture by the band, a small number of outliers weren’t so convinced.

Some Jonas Brothers fans were led to believe the post was referring to Portugal. The Man’s songwriting abilities; therefore intended as a dig at the Jonas Brothers.

As of this writing, the Jonas Brothers have not commented on the matter. Portugal. The Man is expected to be working on a follow-up to its 2017 smash-hit album, Woodstock.

Sucker is available to stream on all major platforms. It’s expected to serve as the lead single from the band’s upcoming studio album.

Currently, the Jonas Brothers have not announced any tour dates.
