Police have ruled that a fatal 2017 assault of a Halifax man has been ruled a homicide.
Halifax Regional Police (HRP) say that on July 20, 2017, at 7:30 p.m., police responded to an injured person call at the corner of Buddy Daye and Gottingen streets.

When they arrived, officers found a man with a head injury. He was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries where he remained until he died from his injuries on Aug. 28, 2017.
Police say Nova Scotia’s Medical Examiner Service conducted an autopsy and after completing in-depth testing, has ruled the death a homicide.
On Tuesday, police officially identified the victim as Benjamin Loka Lokeny, 51.
HRP says that during the course of their investigation, they obtained information that Lokeny had been assaulted by another man believed to be known to him.

Investigators believe that there are people who have information that could help solve the homicide and are asking them to come forward and share what they know.
