A southbound lane of Highway 400 is closed north of Vaughan, Ont., after sewage was spilled onto the roadway, police say.

According to Ontario Provincial police, the spill occurred at around 9:15 a.m., Wednesday, when an issue with the valve seal on a transport truck caused 25,000 litres of sewage to leak onto the roadway.

Police say the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has deployed crews to clean up the spill and are receiving assistance from the Ministry of Transportation.

Officers say no collisions or injuries were reported as a result of the spill.
