Amidst media reports calling into question the durability of the LRT trains, whose delivery has been twice delayed, chair of the transit commission Allan Hubley insists there will be good news to report on the LRT line at Tuesday’s update at the Finance and Economic Development meeting.

“The report will be good tomorrow,” said Hubley. “I think people will be surprised about how much good news is in there. I don’t get all the details but I do know there is a big effort underway to get this delivered.”

Hubley said that he was also concerned about the winter testing on the trains but assures the public that for the majority of the winter storms, they will be fine.

“I was worried about winter testing,” said Hubley. “We’ve been getting some big winter storms and I wanted to know if the train is out there. The plan, as (John) Manconi explained for everybody, once the train is operational is that there will be a train going by every five minutes so they themselves will keep the tracks clear.”

Hubley was on hand at an event held at the OC Transpo main garage on St. Laurent Monday morning where council and public members of the transit commission, along with staff and media, were invited to tour the facilities of the services they make decisions about.

Manconi was also on hand at the event. While he wouldn’t comment on the reports, he did echo  Hubley’s statement that there will be good news at FEDCO.

A report on how the LRT construction is proceeding is expected to be shared at the next FEDCO meeting on Tuesday.
