Damage is pegged at $30,000 after fire broke out at a Cobourg manufacturing plant on Tuesday afternoon.
Around 3 p.m., the Cobourg Fire Department were called to Belden Industries on Willmott Street for reports of a fire inside the building. The company specializes in building connectivity and networking products for industrial, enterprise and broadcast entities.
Employees in the plant were evacuated before crews arrived on scene.
Fire captain Chris Brown says a fire was discovered in the ceiling area of the main plant.
Crews remained on scene for several hours to tackle the “stubborn” fire, Brown said, ensuring the fire did not extend further into the roof area.
Brown said investigators believe the fire started in an extruder machine and travelled to the ceiling where a fan ignited on fire.
No one was injured in the incident.
