Police dogs made an unfortunate discovery on Sunday night after a family living north of Aylmer called Elgin County OPP about their missing father.
The 61-year-old man’s family called police to a home on Lyons Line near Imperial Road in Malahide Township around 7 p.m. on Sunday, worried about their father who’d left the home and hadn’t returned.
The OPP’s Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit helped search for the man, who was found by police dogs near a creek south of Lyons Line. Officers tried unsuccessfully to revive him with CPR.
Police say Malahide Fire Services and St. Thomas Elgin Paramedics also attended the scene.
Police are awaiting the results of a post-mortem exam, but say foul play isn’t suspected in the man’s death.
