Global News’ chief meteorologist Anthony Farnell explained that the freezing rain will last until Thursday.

“Ice pellets are turning to freezing rain and freezing drizzle this afternoon and while icy conditions will last into the day Thursday. The heaviest amounts have already fallen across the region,” he said.

“It may take some parts of the GTA until late Thursday afternoon to get above freezing as another round of rain moves in.”

In addition to its impact on the mail, the weather has also caused flight delays, difficult driving conditions and other closures and cancellations.

Canada Post is also reminding people to keep their walkways and stairs clear, saying 100 employees were hurt due to falls during the first two weeks of January.

“It takes a few minutes but can help avoid a serious and potentially long-term injury that can happen in seconds,” the agency said.
