The city’s manager of street maintenance says a fresh dumping of snow overnight and this morning means Winnipeg may have to re-evaluate its plowing plan.

Michael Cantor told 680 CJOB Wednesday that the mix of snow and cold has made for a difficult operation.

“Plowing in these temperatures is a slow process with increased damages to equipment,” he said.

The morning rush hour saw several crashes, stalls and slowed-down traffic.

“Last night we had been plowing the remainder of the main roads, bus routes and collector streets and continued with our sanding operation,” said Kantor.

“The snow overnight pulled us back a little bit, and we will be reassessing which areas need to be plowed.”

While nothing has been announced yet, Cantor said he thinks they’ll soon call for a residential plow.
