Bonnardel made the announcement on Tuesday, saying he hopes to shed light on the circumstances that led to the weekend accident.

“The day after I asked my deputy minister what happened,” said Bonnardel. “I was not satisfied with the answers I got this morning.”

“I asked him to start an internal inquiry and I will have the answers to this situation in the next week.”

The pileup forced the closure of Highway 20 eastbound for more than five hours.

After the transport ministry’s investigation is completed, Bonnardel said he plans to make the findings public.
