One home has been affected by “minor water damage due to a non-functional sump pump,” Terrebonne officials confirmed Monday.

This comes as preventative measures are being implemented to control the dangerously high water levels of the Mille Îles River as the weather temperatures fluctuate.

Monday morning, officials broke up an ice jam to allow the water to flow freely.

“This additional preventive work has been planned to try to clear, over a distance of nearly 200 meters, the frazil ice located east of the Lepage Bridge on J.-S.-Archambault Boulevard on the Saint-Jean Island,” officials stated.

They added that water levels have been stable since Sunday afternoon and emergency centres are currently open.

J. S. Archambault Boulevard, between François-Corbeil and Despatie streets, is closed. Police officers will be onsite to direct traffic during the rush hours.

The pedestrian tunnel under Autoroute 25 is also closed.

Louis Street and the Côte de Terrebonne are under alert, while Bellerive Street is on standby.

The Mille Îles River channel, which runs into the Rivière des Prairies, is 42 kilometres long.

Quebec is expected to receive anywhere from two to 10 millimetres of ice and rain Monday and Tuesday as a low-pressure system tracks across the province.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and extremely hazardous,” Environment Canada states.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

So far, no residences have been evacuated. Terrebonne is about 40 minutes north of Montreal.
