John Mayer revealed plans for a long-awaited North American tour over the weekend.
The 41-year-old was hosting his comical weekly Instagram live show ‘Current Mood’ on Sunday when he decided to share the exciting news.
Commencing only two weeks after a two-month run with Dead & Company — a tribute band founded by Mayer and the surviving members of The Grateful Dead — Mayer will extensively trek across the U.S. from July to Sept.
Along the way, he’ll play 27 gigs, including two in Canada, at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena, on July 30 and 31 respectively.

After revealing each of the dates on the Instagram live, Mayer was kind enough to detail the premise of the tour to his dedicated fans.
He revealed that the stage would be in the centre of each venue, making it a “360” run, much like U2’s legendary tour between 2009-2011.
“I wanna let you know that the show is going to be sold 360′,” revealed Mayer. “We’re gonna go all around the stage — we’re gonna fill it up.”

He added that there will be no opener, but two full sets, much like how he does it with Dead & Company.
“There’s gonna be no opener, but two sets [instead],” he said.
“A lot of people have also asked me this: ‘What has the Grateful Dead’s music brought to you?’ or ‘What has playing in Dead & Company brought to you?'”
“Well you know what it’s brought to me?” he asked in return. “Every city that I play two-night stands at has no repeats ladies and gentlemen, no repeats.”
That’s right. For shows in New York City, Toronto and L.A., Mayer claimed he will play completely different sets each night.

In the wake of the news, Mayer’s dedicated fans rushed to Twitter in excitement, many hoping to grab a ticket or two for the well-overdue tour.
Mayer released his last album in 2017, entitled The Search for Everything.
Although Mayer has not announced plans for new music in the near future, it’s unclear whether the summer tour will serve to promote an album.
It is being speculated that he’ll alternate vastly throughout his large back-catalog.
