In the midst of a bitter cold, the Public Utilities Board says natural gas rates are going up starting Friday.

The PUB approved Centra Gas Manitoba Inc.’s application to increase rates on Tuesday. The new rates are now $0.091 per cubic metre compared to the current $0.083 per cubic metre.

This means an increase of about 2.3 per cent, or about $16 a year for the average customer, said the PUB.
