SASKATOON – Local fighter Eric Wilson says he’s done waiting for his chance to be in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
The Saskatoon man’s story began a few years ago when he took up the sport of boxing, but after a few amateur matches, lost interest.
Wilson found his true calling when a friend introduced him to the art of grappling, a style of fighting associated with the UFC.
“I just attended a few classes and just really started to like it, kind of got my life together after that, I kept going back, just fell in love with it,” said Wilson.
Eric trained hard and quickly turned pro, winning his first 5 professional fights.
Two years ago, he auditioned to become a combatant on the American television show ‘The Ultimate Fighter,’ but didn’t make the cut.
The show started back in 2005 and has been a breeding ground for some of UFC’s biggest stars ever since.
Wilson is currently just days away from a potentially life-changing event.
Today he will pack his bags and leave for Las Vegas for his second attempt at earning a spot on The Ultimate Fighter.
Wilson has gone all in to prepare for his tryout. The father of two quit his full-time job to train for this opportunity.
“It’s not wondering what’s going to happen, I see the goal and that’s the focus right, I know what I got to do and I know where I want to be and how I’m going to get there that’s all a mystery, but I intend on being there.”
