21 MLAs to become eligible for lucrative pensions

When the writ drops for the provincial election next week, more than 20 MLAs who won’t be running will be eligible for a very lucrative pension.

How lucrative?

According to the taxpayers’ federation — if those MLAs live to be 80, the taxpayers will have paid them nearly a million dollars each.

For example, former premier Gordon Campbell at more than 90 thousand dollars a year will collect 1.7 million dollars by the time he’s 80.

It seems neither the BC Liberals not BC NDP are in a hurry to change anything.

The taxpayers’ federation is calling for a return to a dollar for dollar contribution system, comparable to private sector pensions and closer to federal MP retirement plans.
