The moose that gave Safeway shoppers a bit of a surprise when it was lured into the grocery store in Smithers the other day has died.
B.C. Conservation officers say the moose was in poor health and was infected with ticks as well as acting very lethargic. The officers had been monitoring the moose for a week because it had been causing issues with traffic and that moose in this condition have a very low success rate of re-locations.

After entering the grocery store, the moose walked around while witnesses rushed to snap its picture and take video.
The moose took a stroll down the produce aisle and the manager of the store was able to lure the animal out with some food.
RCMP and B.C. conservation officers were called to the scene to investigate.
