Men charged after city prostitution sting

EDMONTON- Twenty-eight men are facing charges after a prostitution sting on 118th Avenue last week.

The operation took place between April 3 and April 6 as part of the “You Cruise, You Lose” awareness campaign intended to deter the street-level sex trade in Edmonton.

Edmonton police say 28 men were arrested as part of the sting, and 22 vehicles were seized over the four-day period. Police say unfortunately, that number isn’t shocking to them.

“I wish it was a high number, but that’s pretty much a typical number for that many days of enforcement,” said Staff Sergeant Jerry Nash, EPS Vice Section.

Police say 13 women were taken into the SNUG program, which offers resources and support intended to help get them off the street.

“Unfortunately, (street-level sexual exploitation) still is occuring and we’re taking every efforts we can to work with communities, work with our partners, and work with the divisions to address that disorder type of activity,” Nash explained.
