Hobbema officer charged with excessive force

Edmonton – An RCMP officer will be appearing in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court Tuesday, after being charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm.

The charge against Constable Ron Lavallee comes as a result of a public complaint received by the Hobbema RCMP Detachment, which alleged that Lavallee used excessive force during an arrest in January, 2012.

A senior member of an independent RCMP unit investigated the alleged incident before the charge was sworn last week.

Cst. Lavallee is currently on medical leave and his duty status is under review.

He’s been with the RCMP for seven years and is stationed at Hobbema.

The RCMP says it’s not in a position to comment on the details of the case because it’s now before the courts.
