As many as 12 people have been removed from a home in the Shaughnessy Park neighbourhood after a standoff with police Friday.
A large police presence – including the armoured response unit – surrounded the home in the Gilbert Park complex starting at about 3:45 a.m. The standoff ended before 5 p.m.

Three people were initially taken into custody, with more coming out of the home afterwards.
Police released a chemical irritant inside the house to try and get people out, but nobody budged, they said.
Radean Carter, senior information officer with the Winnipeg School Division said nearby Shaughnessy Park School was in a hold and secure, meaning classes were continuing but no one can go in or out.
“We have a significant number of units out here to make sure everybody’s safe,” said Sgt. Rob Carver, “as you can see, this is a residential neighbourhood.
“We’re taking every precaution we can take make sure that everyone is safe, not only people in the neighbourhood, but our officers and the people in the house.”
Police asked residents to stay indoors.
“I think this morning, if I lived in this area, I’d be concerned. We’ve got 25 police units out here or so, with long guns out, a tactical support team is out… it would reasonably make anyone uncomfortable.
“Right now, this morning, we’re asking everyone this morning to stay inside.”
A neighbour told Global News that police had been on site since 3:45 a.m. Friday, and that police have attended to a “problem home” in the area numerous times. Police confirmed they’ve had contact with the residence before.
The neighbour also said a few people have been taken out of the home by police.
