CALGARY- Fire fighters are reminding residents to regularly test their smoke alarms, following a house fire in the northeast community of Marlborough Park.

The fire broke out around noon on Saturday, in the 800 block of Madeira Drive Northeast.

Police say a resident of the townhouse smelled smoke and noticed a fire in one of the bedrooms.

He then rushed the other residents out of the home and called 9-1-1 from outside.

When fire crews arrived, they found four adults and three children waiting outside the two-story townhouse.

One of the adults was treated on scene for smoke inhalation. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported.

Fire crews continue to investigate the cause. They say, while there was a smoke detector in the building; it wasn’t working at the time of the fire.
