The Calgary Fire Department has given a dramatic demonstration of why they want sprinklers in every new home in the city.
They gave a side by side comparison of what it looks like to have a fire burning in a home with sprinklers, and one without.
The results make it easy to see why firefighters want building codes throughout Canada to change, forcing builders to install sprinklers in every home they make.

However, insurance agents say you shouldn’t assume your home insurance will be cheaper, just because you have sprinklers installed. They say sprinklers can sometimes be activated by human error.
Vancouver remains the only major city that demands all new homes have sprinklers installed, making the change 20 years ago.
