Suspicious death of elderly woman at downtown Edmonton apartment

Homicide detectives are investigating after an elderly woman was found dead and an elderly man was taken to hospital from an apartment in downtown Edmonton.

Police were called at around 9:40 a.m. to the Parkside Manor apartment building on 115 Street near 102 Avenue in the Oliver neighbourhood to check on the welfare of the people inside a suite.

Officers arrived to find a woman dead and a man suffering from non-life threatening injuries. He remains in hospital.

Global News spoke with the building’s owner, Craig Stout, who said the victims involved are a senior couple that have been living in the apartment for at least two decades. He estimates they are in their 70’s.

Edmonton police said an autopsy will be scheduled early next week to determine the cause of death of the female.

Few other details are known at the moment, but police said there is no concern for the public at this time and they are not looking for suspects.
