“At 2 a.m. this morning crews dispatched to 505 Lonsdale, eight-storey concrete high rise building. [The] seventh floor [was] fully involved, a couple of suites involved,” North Vancouver Fire Chief Dan Pistilli said.

The 20-unit building was evacuated and ladder crews were able to knock the fire down quickly.

Crews from the North Vancouver District and West Vancouver fire departments assisted with the two-alarm fire.

“Once we saw the flames coming over our balcony we knew this was the real thing,” resident Lynn Jest said.

Two people, including one woman who tried to put the flames out herself, were taken to hospital with minor burns and later released.

Other residents were sent to a nearby community centre, while crews grabbed their essentials.

Pistilli said while they are still determining the cause, it does not appear to be suspicious.
