SHELBURNE, N.S. – The head of the RCMP in southwestern Nova Scotia will meet Tuesday with municipal officials in Shelburne to address the dwindling number of officers in the town.
A full complement would normally consist of 10 Mounties, but in recent weeks that number has shrunk to five officers for various reasons, including maternity leave and medical issues.
Mayor Karen Mattattal, town councillors and CAO Dylan Hyde have been expressing concern over the shortage.
Mattattal says the town expects to receive another Mountie, but she’s not sure when the officer will arrive in the community.
RCMP Supt. Sylvie Bourassa-Muise says she hopes to assure officials during Tuesday’s meeting that the situation will soon be corrected.
